Our first Bitesize profile of 2018 is a slightly different form of “InsurTech” – a new information platform.
Slipcase is an online hub for news and thought leadership for the global commercial / specialty (re)insurance market. Users can select topics they are interested in reading about (e.g. marine cargo, InsurTech) and view a personalised newsfeed with relevant breaking news, trade news and thought leadership, for free. Signed-up contributors include risk carriers (e.g. AIG and QBE), brokers (e.g. Willis Towers Watson and Guy Carpenter) and associated service providers (e.g. Oxbow Partners and Fitch).
The business started life in 2012 as a social media platform for London market professionals. Slipcase’s founder Alex Hearn (a former broker at WTW), wanted to bring the Lloyd’s community online, but soon found that users were not active enough: “We began to understand that users did not want to give back to the platform via likes, shares and comments, or duplicate their LinkedIn network. What they wanted was access to relevant insurance content”. In 2014 he pivoted to the current content-marketing model.
The business now has a readership of 35,000 across 76 countries.
We find Slipcase useful and thought you might like to sign up.
